Clinical Advisory Committee - CAC
-Contraceptive discontinuation attributed to method dissatisfaction
in the United States by Caroline Moreaua, Kelly Clelanda, and James

-On June 5-6, 2007, the Division of STD Prevention (DSTDP) convened
the Consultation to Address STD Disparities in African-American Communities.
The consultation brought together community leaders and other partners
serving African-American communities to help identify prevention and
control efforts likely to be acceptable and effective in affected

Audience: Family planning administrators, community health clinicians,
counselors and educators. First priority will be giving to staff working
in Boston, Cambridge and Somerville Family planning sites.

-List the HIV counseling and testing options, and the newest technologies;
-Define the roles for family planning providers in HIV education prevention
and patient support;
-Discuss the importance of client-centered HIV risk assessment as
an essential component of STD/HIV prevention, reproductive health,
and family planning care; and
-Practice and build risk assessment into their ongoing counseling
and clinical activities.

-Utilize qualified Medical Interpreters and determine ways in which
their role differs from unskilled interpretation;
-Practice at least two patient care situations using medical interpretation;
and
-Gain skill in providing patient education and counseling using medical
interpreters to ensure accurate medical communication.
